Edmund Bartlett, C.D.,M.P. – Chairman & Co-Founder


Recognized for his wide-ranging expertise and accomplishments in the political arena,
Mr. Edmund Bartlett has given over thirty years of service to Jamaica, working both in the
Senate and in the House of Representatives.

Mr. Bartlett is currently the Opposition Spokesman on Tourism and Aviation.

He was appointed Minister of Tourism in 2007, served in that post till December 2011. Before
2007 however, he had already had a solid track record of service as an outstanding legislator in
central government in both Chambers of Parliament. He was Minister of State in the Office of
the Prime Minister and Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Development from 1980 to
1989; later he served as Senator and Opposition Spokesman of various portfolios, including
Tourism, from 1989 to 2007.

Beyond the duties of his assigned responsibilities, Mr. Bartlett has continually championed the
cause of education and skills training. His passion for education is behind his efforts to raise
funds that provide scholarships for both students and teachers, thus increasing their ability to
achieve academic success and personal development. He has also worked tirelessly to facilitate
job creation as ways of improving the lives of his constituents in East Central St. James. The
plight of the elderly and disabled in his constituency has not escaped his attention. He works
unstintingly to improve their lives.

A zealous and purposeful leader, Mr. Bartlett set extraordinary standards of performance for
himself and his team and led by motivating and inspiring them to attain the unattainable. Defying
all odds at a time of global economic upheaval, he achieved stellar results, by ensuring that
Jamaica, maintained its position as one of the leading destinations in the world, and as such
Jamaica remains one of only two countries in the Caribbean region with positive growth in
tourism. For his efforts in respect of tourism development, he was named Man of the Year in

In May 2010, he was honoured by Spain and made a Commander of Number of the Order of
Civil Merit for the tasks he fulfilled during his time as Minister of Tourism and when he served
as Opposition Spokesman on Tourism. He was recognised for his impeccable conduct, efficiency
and generosity that helped to encourage Spanish investors and strengthen the relationship
between Spain and Jamaica.

On 6th August, 2012, Mr. Bartlett was awarded the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) by
the Government of Jamaica. The award is in recognition of his service to and accomplishments
in the political arena. Mr. Bartlett has served Jamaica for more than 34 years, 25 of which have
been as a Member of Parliament in St. Andrew and St. James.

Throughout his career, Mr. Bartlett’s has represented Jamaica at national, regional and
international conferences and conventions. He has served as a member of the Executive Council
of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), representing the entire Americas
region. He has also served as Vice Chairman of the Commission for the Americas (CAM) of the
UNWTO, Vice President of the 2009 UNWTO Conference held in Kazakhstan and Chairman of
CARICOM’s Sub-Committee COTED in 2009 in the areas of Tourism and Transportation/Civil
Aviation. He has served as Vice President for the World Conference on Cultural Policies, and
during International Youth Year as Vice Chairman of the U.N. International Youth Year
Advisory Committee.

Mr. Bartlett is the Founder of the Jamaican Foundation for Children, which he continues to
support today.

A graduate of the University of the West Indies, where he majored in accounting, he has worked
at the senior management level in the areas of marketing and sales as well as accounting, for
major multi-national companies operating in Jamaica, prior to entering elective politics.
Mr. Bartlett has been married for 40 years and has two children and two grandchildren. His
passions include cricket, dominoes and dancing.
